  • 2017. Washington DC. USA. A contestant in camouflage high heels during the preliminary judging. Ms. Veteran America is a pageant for active duty and retired female members of the armed forces. Part beauty pageant, part talent competition, part test of strength and commitment, the event raises funds for Final Salute, an organization providing housing and support for homeless women veterans and their children. Some of the participants danced and some sang, but many gave testimonials of sexual assault, PTSD and homelessness. Lindsay Gutierrez won the 2017 competition. The keynote speaker was the original {quote}Daisy Duke{quote}, Catherine Bach.

A small rally demonstrating for increased gun regulation is attended by less than a dozen people after Gun rights activists gathered at the state Capitol to protest possible legislation to restrict gun ownership introduced by the Democrat controlled state government. Despite fears of violence, the protest was peaceful and had only one arrest. The crowd was estimated at 22,000. Democrats want to limit handgun purchases to one a month, institute universal background checks, and add a bill that would allow local authorities to temporarily take guns away from those considered dangerous to themselves or others.
